Biographical Drama
The happy life of a family in 1970s Rio de Janeiro is shattered by military rule in Walter Salles' tense biographical drama. Former congressman Rubens Paiva lives in an idyllic beach house with his wife Eunice and their five children. Returning to his civil career after the revocation of his tenure at the outset of the 1964 Brazilian coup d’état, Paiva continues to support political expatriates without telling his family. When Rubens is ‘disappeared’ by the military dictatorship, Eunice strives to keep her family together and shield her children from despair. It also features an extraordinary performance from Oscar – nominated Fernanda Torres as Eunice
