SPECIAL GUEST - INTRODUCTION AND Q&A WITH DIRECTOR DEBORAH HAYWOOD
British born Deborah was selected for Screen International’s Stars of Tomorrow, 2007 after producing her first short. She is BIFA nominated and has won several awards including Best Short at Soho Rushes Short Film Festival with her short film Sis. Pin Cushion is not only Deborah’s directorial debut but she also wrote the feature script, with producer Gavin Humphries, Creative England, and the BFI. It is wowing the fi lm critic world with five star reviews up and down the country. Official Selection Venice Film Festival Critics’ Week 2017 - Opening Night Gala - World premiere; Official Selection Rotterdam International Film Festival 2018.

A must-see impressive and compelling debut feature from Deborah Haywood, with fairytale whimsy and dark realism. Newcomer Lily Newmark shines in this quirky, small-town drama about bullying. Sweet and funny in places, heartbreaking in others, teenaged Iona (Newmark) moves with her single mother Lyn (Scanlan) to start a new life in a new town. While mum and daughter are adorably, if slightly unnervingly, close to each other, Iona is keen to fit in at her new school and a distance forms between them. A sensitive and assured film with characters you’ll warm to and root for. (Dir. Deborah Haywood, UK, 2017, 1 hr 22 mins).
